Hi everyone. I’m Bruce Dell a senior pharmacist with Covetrus and we’re delighted that you came. Come along with me and see how the magic is done.

There are more than 70 veterinary trained pharmacists within the Covetrus family. That means that at every single step of the compounding process there is pharmacist involvement.

We speak this language; we’ve been doing this for more than 25 years. We know what you encounter in the course of a day and we are there to help along the way.

Quality is our number one priority here at Covetrus. From the time we received the order in the pharmacy until the last moment in the last step of packing and shipping, we have quality checks at each one of those stations to ensure that what we’re dispensing is the correct medication.

The other piece to this is really here again how we practice Pharmacy. And so what does that mean? That means we’re staying on top of what are the new regulations that are coming out, like our quality program right; it’s a requirement that we have a quality program. But we look at quality beyond just did we fill the medication correctly.

As we continue to see part of Portland’s compounding pharmacy, you can tell that I’m actually not in the pharmacy that I’m out in our viewing Corridor. Why is that? Because the areas that we’re passing have special requirements and regulations that we could not go in there. And why is that important from our patient standpoint? is that we’re protecting the environment, where we’re compounding for pet medications.

One of the suites that I’m standing right in front of here is our sterile hazardous suite. As you can see, it’s a small room with a hood and alarm tower. What that alarm Tower is telling me, is that the environment is safe for us to compound, while we’re in there. It’s based on a red, yellow, green stoplight notification.

If it turns yellow we have to stop compounding and see what’s going on with our environmental measuring. If it turns red we have to take all everything we’ve compounded out of the room and we have to start that compounding from scratch.

Quality has to be built into not only the culture but all the way through the workflow so whether you’re a pharmacist or your Warehouse associate packing orders, quality has to be owned by our team as a whole.

How can we help you, that’s the phrase on the phone. And they just say, well I’ve got this cat. All right, what have you tried? What do you want? What spectrum are you looking for? Those kinds of things. And we just take it from there and try to provide options and opportunities for them. It’s so much fun.

At the end it all comes down to the pet and I think all of us that work here have a connection to an animal and have a connection to our own four-legged friends at home. It just makes it more personalized, the touch that we have and what we’re giving. And we would want that same care for our own pets, our extended family at home. And so that’s really why it’s really special for us to be able to do that. And the willingness and the want to do that for our pets
